phantom of the opera movie party :)

FRIDAY APR.29

Well I"m done my two week break. As you read previously on the blog, most of the 2nd part of 2 week break was spend at Steph Zupke's house. We really didn't do much except watch a whack load of movies including:
The Incredibles
Hook
Conspiracy Theory
Peter Pan
The Cat in the Hat
So ya we watched movies, sat on the couch pretty much all day, walked into town a couple of times, and did a puzzle. Yes, it was a very stressful week ;)

I think the best story from it was when it was Steph's birhtday and since she wanted to make her birthday memorable, she mentioned to her best friend Jen that she's never gotten a black eye before, so Jen gave her one. So ya, that was pretty funny. Sadly i wasn't able to witness this
event, but i did see Steph's black eye. She still has it and that was about a week ago.

So ya everyone is back at school again, which is awesome because i
missed everyone tons. I"m now in a new room with 3 new roommates:
Vanessa, from Wataskwin (sorry if i spelt that wrong), Alberta
Natasha, from Winnipeg, Manitoba
Jung Soo, Seoul, Korea
They're awesome!

Even though Nikki isn't in my room anymore we still had a mini dance party the other night. I took a video of it, I"ll show you sometime :) It's really funny because you can't hear the music and you just see us dancing around.

Um, i can't really remember alot right now. Maybe because my mind is all over the place right now thinking about what i need to put on the blog, who i have to e-mail today, time managment for assigments, cooking supper tomorrow for evening tea (supper), and watching Stacey and Ruth open the packages that they got in the mail. Anyway my point is, I'm sorry i can't remember all of my stories at the moment, but i will get pictures posted eventually on the blog. Again i apologize for making you wait for stories and pictures but it's hard to explain somethings
without a visual. I hope you all understand.

Today we got explained our theme for Breakthrough. Basically Breakthrough is like a vacation bible school where all of the youth groups from the surrounding area come out and have a good time here on campus. Our theme this year "N a r n i a", so it's based on the book "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis. We basically dress up as the characters that we are assigned, stay at a certain "station" and the kids will come around to the different stations for different activities. The people and their characters match up perfectly (i know this may not
mean much to you because you don't know these people the way that i do, but if you know the characters of the book, just know that these people fit them to a tea):
Aslan=Charlie
The White Witch= Angela
Peter=Raymond
Susan=Nikki
Edmond=Landon
Lucy=Natasha
The Professor=Richard
Mr. Tumnus=Matt. A
Mr.Beaver=Mark
Mrs.Beaver=Earlene

Yes, that's right, I'm Mrs.Beaver.Go figure! Apparently when i wear my glasses i look like i could be Mrs. Beaver ;) From what i know, me, Mark, Min, and Dan are transforming a small canopy of trees into a beaver dam. That's mine and Mark's "station" for Breakthrough. From what i
also understand my costume consists of a brown skirt and brown long sleeved shirt and a beaver tail attached somehow. Oh and i get an apron too. My hair's going to be in a bun, I'll wear my glasses and my face is being painted brown. I"m SO excited!

AAAA!!! I just had one of the bst nights ever!! Mainly 'cause Erica borrowed POTO on DVD from the video store and some of us girls watched it. We loved it!! Oh baby ya! Plus we also watched all of the bonus scenes and promos for the 1980's Phantom of the Opera, it was horrible! If you ever get the chance to watch the extras on the DVD, definately watch them! You'll pee your pants laughing at the bad 80's filming, SO bad! But we had fun watchin it. So ya someone (or myself) needs to buy me that movie, on DVD, so that i can watch it and make fun of the 80's footage. But ya that's it for now.

Oh, if you guys want me to send you pictures and letters and postcards i NEED your mailing addresses. If you give me your address, there's pretty much a % chance I'll send you something in the mail. Okay bye!

Star Wars

Hello Hello!! Yes i'm fully aware that i haven't updated in a couple of days. That's because our "road trip" kinda hit a snag.

Well we bought a car for the 2nd week of 2 week break........however we didn't make it past Huntly because the radiator was leaking and Ray tried his best to fix it but couldn't. So while he walked from place to place trying to find help for our car, the 4 of us girls stayed in the car on the side of the road and entertained ourselves with singing and chit-chat :) Seriously though, it was awesome! That was the coolest start to my first road trip with friends. We did eventually get help from Matt Finlayson and he helped us put the car in a local farmer's yard until we could get it fixed/towed back to Cambridge. so ya most of that day was spent on the side of the road. And ever since that night we've been staying at Steph Z's house because she's awesome and let us stay there. Last night there was 10 people in total staying in that tiny house...like this house was smaller than my yellow house on the yard....Crazy, yet still awesomely fun :)

So right now we're just bumming around town, it's a 45 minute walk from Steph's house, and just catching up with e-mails and what not. Oh we went into town the other day and i ended up buyin 6 CD's....they were cheap! I ended up getting:
Lion King 1 & 2
Star Wars: A New Hope
80's Dance Party
Nsync
Yes i know i got Nsync, it reminds me of when i used to like them back in the day :)

Oh just so you know, if you want me to send you postcard and letter from New Zealand, i NEED your mailing addresses okay? Cause i really want to send some of you cool postcards but i can't if i don't know where to send them. You know my e-mail....if you don't you should be reading the blog more often ;)

Well I guess that's it for now. Love you all & God bless!

Well I'm in Hamilton right now. My parents left Auckland yesterday, so that was kinda sad in one sense but now I can have some fun with my friends also.

This keyboard is really weird because not only does it have english letters on it, it's also got Japanese or Korean letters on it too....weird!

So yesterday i walked from the bus dept to my hostel which was about 15 blocks away. So i had to haul all my stuff with me but that was okay because it had time to kill. See, i came to Hamilton a day ealy because my parents left and i really didn't feel like staying in Auckland all by myself. So i headed to the Flying Hedghog motel/hostel last night and settleed in. Now i'm just killing a day with shopping (and maybe even Phantom of the Opera movie watching...if i'm lucky :) ) until everyone else (Nikki, Stacey, Ruth, and Ray) shows up at the hostel.

So ya I'm excited. Hopefully i can watch POTO in the meantime, however when i got a brochure from th cinema it said that you had to book your tickets ahead. Well I guess I can found that out at 12:30 because the movies starts at 12:45 this afternoon. Hopefully you don't need advanced tickets because that would totally make my day if i could watch POTO. However if not, then I'll just go shopping for some CD's, a Glassons sweater and maybe some new board shorts because the ones that i bought before i can to NZ are WAY too tight, and that's saying something because when i bought them they fight perfectly. So those are now on the plane with my parents cause there's no sense in keeping those things if they don't fit.

But i guess that's it for now. Bye!

Adventures from Apr.15

OK so yesterday my and my parents took a took all the way from Paihia to Cape Reinga and back again. Cape Reinga is pretty much the mot nothern tip of NZ. Some highlights from the tour included:
-sledding on sand dunes
-seeing 90 mile beach (even though the bech itself is only 64 miles)
-ate fish & chips @ Mangonui
-saw the "Ancient Kauri kingdom", which is a shop where they sell authentic Kauri tree products

um, i htink that's about it. i mean there was more to see and stuff but i can't really remember it off the top of my head.

Well hope to hear from you all soon! If you don't know already, please e-mail me @ earleneulrich@capernwray.org.nz Bye!

Apr.14

Well right now me and my parents are in Paihia and tomorrow we're hoping to catch a bus tour up to Cape Reinga which is the very very norhern tip of New Zealand. Apparently it's an all day trip, so this'll be fun ;)

This afternoon we said goodbye to Chris and Jock, they said i could always come back there if i decide to stay another 6 months. They were abl to get us booked into a hostel called the Pickled Parrot. Our room is kinda like little hut up some stairs and into the trees. After looking around the shops in Paihia, me and mom had a couple hour long nap and before supper ("tea" in New Zealand terms)I read a couple of chapters of a book my friend Jake recommened called "The Well of Lost Plots". Most of the info on the book can be found on www.thursdaynext.com But ya, that's my evening thus far. Love you all lots! God bless!

Apr.13 Adventures

Today, we did a couple of things but it just all seemed like a big blur because most of the time i was sleeping in the car because NZ roads dont' really agree with me. It's like when you realize that you've turned left you have to turn right, and when you realize that you've turned right you have to turn left. It's kinda of annoying. So to avoid all that I just sleep.

I know we went to Dograville to check out the Kauri musuem there. Kauri is a large type of tree that's in NZ. Well the musuem wasn't just Kauri tree stuff but it was filled with antique's and other fun things like that. I think the thing that i found the most interesting was the old pianos.

For the whole 3 months that i've been in NZ I haven't found one bottle of iced tea, then again i wasn't really looking for one, but i did find one today. Man, did that ever tast good after 3 months of being without it. I even took picture of the bottle just in case that was the one iced tea I'd see in NZ.

We then went to the beach near Raukaka, and me and mom just kinda splashed around in the waves because we relaly didn't feel like doing excessive swimming.

After that we had a little look around on Finlayson's farm and saw an actual Kauri tree. The diameter of the one we saw was about 10 meters. So they're quite huge trees.

I guess that's about it for now.maybe I'll think of something more interesting to blog later on.

Is Your Obessesion with Phantom of the Opera Unhealthy?

Well we ALL know that i love POTO, however i just recently did a quiz that proved how "obsessed" i really was...here are the results:

You're in love!
The beauty of the musical never ceases to amaze you!
You love it, but don't obsess.
You manage to lead a normal life!
Wow! :)

Take the quiz yourself "Is your obsession with Phantom of the Opera Unhealthy?"

The Antique House

So as I've mentioned before me and my parents are visiting some old family friends up here near Whangerai. Their names are Chris and Jock Finlayson. Jock's dad lives within the yard and just now we had a tour of Les's house (Jock's dad). Les's house is pretty much filled to the top with antiques...and i mean almost literally!!

Definately my favorite thing was the player paino. You could sit down in front of it, pedal as hard as you could on the pedals, and the paper would move and music would start playing from the piano. Me and dad caught on to it straight away (the Kiwi phrase for "right away") however we pretty much had to give mom lessons cause she didn't know what she was doing. I was just plunking away on the thing when Chris mentioned that Les has Phantom of the Opera sheets for the piano.............say what now?!!! PHANTOM OF THE OPERA!! When i heard that i almost fell of the bench! Unfortunely she couldn't find it, but i did bring the POTO notes that i found from school so maybe I'll be able to play a bit of it on 2 week break after all!

Me Uncle Alvin was here 25 odd years ago and he left some of his boots here on the farm because they had holes in them. Well those are now "antique" and at Les's house now and are used as flower pots. I've got pictures of those, the player piano, mini Coke bottles, old school telephones, a whiskey bottle that's almost as high as my knee (I"m NOT kidding!) and other cool stuff that's in that house.

When we got back to the house, Chris showed us some old photos of when Jock came to Canada and visited my grandma Rose. It's kinda cool seeing your old house in old photos, like looking back in time. So that was col.

Alrighty time for bed. God bless! :)

updates...

Man i feel like i could organize this blog SO much better if i had a laptop and internet access. Then things would get done and organized the way that i needed them to be. *sigh* I just spend the last 15 minutes re-spacing some previous blogs so that they're easier for you to read. However i started from the earliest ones and I"m trying to work my way up to the more recent ones. *sigh* but that might just have to wait until i get back home anyway. I mean I've got alot to add to this thign when i get back.... I've probably taken well over 1000 pictures since i left home (not including Phantom of the Opera movie pictures and Going Away Party), so Im there's alot to add. Oh well it will be well worth it when I"m all done :)

Tutukaka, Ngunguru, & Whangaumu

Well this morning mom and Chris went for some swimming exercises in Whangerai, and since i wasn't really up for swimming i ended up going shopping @ the Warehouse and Postie +. I ended up buying a skirt and a new purse because the one that Tita Daphie gave me for Christmas has gotten a beating since i got here. It's sweet as (that's a Kiwi expression) cause it's white with an embroidered fish on it and it says HOT TUNA. I thought it was cute :)

Next my parents, Chris and Jock and I all headed up to Finlayson's beach house which is in Tutukaka. We had lunch there and we had a look around the neighboring bays which were Ngunguru and Whangagaumu (have fun pronouncing those ;))

So far that's about it that happened today. Oh i'm doing laundry as we speak, so Yay for clean clothes!

Ever since mom got here to NZ all she wants to eat now is Fish & chips. That's what we ordered for supper. I just think it's really funny because back home she woudn't touch fish and chips but now that she can have the realy deal, that's all she wants to eat.

New Updates on Sidebar

Hey Hey! Just to let you guys know, i've added something new to the side bar. Feel free to check out a couple of the attractions that I"ve seen/been to/hae done here in New Zealand. I"m hoping to add more as time goes on. Enjoy!

Apr.2-9

Man i haven't actually blogged myself in SO SO long! I think since Feb. sometime. Man this feels good! Thanx again Amy for updating it for me!! I think since I've been so behind with catching up, I"m just going to give you the dates that i did stuff on and give you quick "highlights" of each day. Trust me, when i get home (whenever that'll be) I'll put pictures in there in chronological order so that you can fully understand what i mean. But now I guess you'll have to be okay with just the "highlights". Hope that's cool with all of you :)

Sat. Apr.2
HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIKKI!!
-So for Nikki's b-day, me her and Laura Blackstone had a little dress up party and fashion show around campus with some crazy dress up clothes from the resource room
-that afternoon, Laura taught us, plus Graham and Ray, how to do some Pilates moves. Graham's favorite was when you lay on your back, lift you legs all the way straight up, lower you legs and "pump" with you arms
-that night the student cooks got everyone dressed up for supper, because they could and because it's always fun to dress up. We even got mac & cheese with chicken bits in it...SO good!!
-later that night almost all of girls got together and had a birthday party for Nikki
-Jana even gave her a coconut bra which Nikki wore over her clothes so "show it off"

Sun.Apr.3
-Dave said something that really hit me when he presented his testimony, it was "Why do you look for the living among the dead?" Luke 24:5 This was what the angel said because Christ rose from the dead and the women at the tomb were looking for Him. That stood in my mind because us as humans try to find a "god" in so many things here on earth be it money, possessions, people etc. but all of those things eventually fade away or die. But if we look to God in heaven, He never dies and never ever fades away from us. He's with us always.

Mon. Apr.4
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGELA!
-during morning tea Hayden had a toy tractor and i casually mentioned that the tractor reminded me of life on the farm, somehow that got Hayden analysizing me and my relationship with my father. It was like a free therapy session, and i think we made some progress :)
-since it was Angela's b-day and she LOVES dance parties, we threw her one in the lecture hall, it was tons of fun :)

Tues.Apr.5
-all of girls from school had a surprise birthday party for Marsha and her baby. I've got tons of pictures that i want to show you, they explain alot of what happened at the party ;)

Wed.Apr.6
-this was the day that my parents were planning to visit me at school. Even though i just got used to the fact that they're half a world away from me, i still missed them and was really anxious to see them again
-many friends here at school seemed quite amazed that my parents are such opposites, i mean i still dont' get it!
-they didn't stay the whole day because they wanted to check out Cambridge and head back to Hamilton, where they stayed for the next couple of days
-that night Simon somehow got a hold of a scale and i asked him if i could see how much i weighed. Now before i left home i was about 135 lbs. so i figured that now since I've eaten SO much chocolate and sweets down here in NZ, I'd be about 140lbs. or something like that. However when i stepped on the scale, the thing said that was about 134 lbs.!! How's that possible! I couldn't have lost weight given all the food I've eaten! So ya i don't really know what to think about that. : S

Thurs.Apr.7
-that day i presented my Family Bible study and convienently my parents were able to attend
-my bible study was based on Matt.14:25-33, where Jesus and Peter walk on water.
-my main theme was : When you focus your attention on Christ you can do anything and everything seems to come together (as in Peter walked on the water), however when you focus on your circumstances you will sink (just like Peter did).
- I think someone mentioned this in their testimony that day because i wrote it down in my day planner : God is glorified is us, when we are satisfied in Him

Fri.Apr.8
-all of us students had to leave campus entirely because it was the start of our 2 week break
-that was the last time i could ever call the room C3 mine because when we get back from 2 week break we switch rooms and roommates..........I'll miss you Amy, Stacey and Nikki!!
-don't worry I've got pictures and videos of people saying goodbye and packing they're stuff to go

Sat.Apr.9
-me and my parents headed to see the Waitomo Glowworm Caves
-the caves were absolutely amazing to see, i would have taken tons of pictures but we weren't allowed to on the tour, so I'm thinking I'll scan some postcards and post those pictures when i get home
-one part of the cave was called the "Cathedrel" because it had a dome shaped roof and there was no echo in it. Our tour giuded suggested that one of us sing to demonstrate, no one did. I was thisclose to bursting out Phantom of the Opera, but i didn't because i didn't want to embarrass myself. Now i"m wishing i did do it!
-we went on a very short boat ride and when we looked above us we could see tiny little green lights that looked like tiny glow in the dark stars, those were the actual glow worms!
-after the seeing the glow worms, my parents and i head off to the Otorohanga Kiwi House
-there you could see an actual kiwi bird, they're endangered species here in NZ so house like this protect them
-It was definately cool to see a real kiwi bird!!
-they also had ducks, falcons and pukekos there too

Okay that should be it for last week. Hopefully I"ll be able to start this week tomorrow. God bless!

SATURDAY APRIL 2

Man it's definitely time for a major update! Now in my last blog update i left you with saying that we were heading to Totara Springs for our ministry week. It was pretty cool there. it's near Matamata which is where they filmed Hobbiton. We didn't get a chance to see it because we busy with working and teaching at the camp but I'm sure that one of these days I"ll see Hobbiton.

So the camp reminded us alot of Briercrest. I mean just the massiveness of it and that they even had their own bookstore. I send some of you girls encouragement cards thati bought from there. Me, Hayden (our leader from school), Vicky and Charlie were in charge of the 10-12 year olds.
We basically taught them the basics of the gospel message like
Who is Jesus?
Why Did Jesus come?
What did He teach?
What is sin?
How did Jesus take away our sins?
What do we need to do to be forgiven?
After we're forgiven what can we do now?

I taught the lesson on What did Jesus teach. At first i think i confused the kids because it just seemed like was teaching at a Capernwray level and not at the level that these kids were at. So i just said a really quick prayer in my mind and then the ords just seemed to make sense to those kids. And afterward it just seemed like that lesson was the one that the kids remembered the most because they were able to remember most of what was said. It just goes to show that you can't really do anything without God's help.

It was tons of fun meeting those kids and just having a blast with them. In the evenings we kinda had a couple "movie nights" and we watched "School of Rock", "Recess", and part of "An American Tale".

We were there until Monday afternoon and even though I haven't seen any of my friends from school in about 10 days I was just so happy to see them again. I mean i almost started crying i was just that happy. It was awesome.

Tuesday was pretty much getting ready for 2 week break. Basically it's, me,Nikki, Stacey, Ruth and Raymond all travelling together. Actually this whole we pretty much spend on planning our trip. Our original plan was that during the 2nd week of 2 week break we'd travel around the
South Island. This is because during the first week Ray's at a camp, Stacey's travelling with her mom and I'm travelling with my parents. However after talking with some people we've come to the conclusion that it would be better to travel around teh North Island cause that way we could just relax and chill out and not get stressed out about having not enough time in the South Island. so prayer about those future travels would be greatly appreciated :)

On Wednesday we had a presentation on the Passover Meal and what the different things in the meal symbolized. It was pretty cool to see how all of those things fit together. Don't you worry I've got tons of pictures to eventually put on the blog so I"ll just explain more about that later :)

Thursday morning I got THE best wake up call ever! If you've seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail then you'd understand this: Nick, Jamie, Eric, and Mark walked around the rooms chanting. Then Eric yelled "BRING OUT YOUR DEAD" and instead of beating their heads with a bible Mark had a pot and banged on that. Man did that ever make my morning! It was just stinking hilarios!! I wish you could have seen it for yourself.

SUNDAY APR. 3

Man do i ever LOVE the Phantom of the Opera. I think my piano playing of those songs are getting better even though don't really practice every day but it just helps to practice reading paino notes so that my eyes don't forget how to read.

Now back to telling you about my week: On Friday afternoon we took the Extreme team to the ABS lodge to kayak and hang out for a bit. We also had the chance to help Peter Bichan pick mushrooms and we sort of had a little "mushroom fry" at the Lodge.

That night we sort of had a "spur of the moment" worship service so that was cool too.

Later on the night while getting ready for bed there was mouse in our room. Ya you read that right, a real rodent type mouse was in our room. Trust me, we screamed as if there was no tomorrow. Oh man! It totally freaked Amy out and me and Nikki we climbing on our bunks and chairs to get away from the thing. We opened to door and it eventually ran out. Ruth said that she heard us screaming and she's on the other side of campus.
