Crochet

Tues. July 26

Hey! Well my new "hobbie" is now crocheting. Yes, you read that right,
i crochet! I told Vanessa about it and about how excited I was to work
on a scarf that i"m making @ the moment and she was like "Aw, are you a
natural?" I nodded. Then she said "Aw, Mrs. Beaver!" Remember how i
said that I was Mrs.Beaver in our Narnia Breakthrough? Well Mrs.Beaver is
really into sewing and stuff like that so Vanesssa was making fun of me
because of it. Plus from what i hear, Kirsty said that crocheting is
the newest trend for girls to pick up. Oh ya, who's the cool person
now?!?! So ya I'm thinking about making a scarf (maybe even giving it as a
gift to a close friend) then I'm thinking about making an afghan or a
throw blanket to put in my living room.

Fun fact for you: Kiwi's pronounce crochet differently. You know how we
pronouce it "croch-eh" well they say "croch-er" it's weird as!

Sat. July 22

Hello again! sorry for the almost week long blog update delay! Been
busy 'round here!

Well the Spring 2005 semester @ Capernwray has finally started.
There's about 37 students here, huge difference from last time! There's about
1/3 Canadians, 1/3 Americans and 1/3 Asian/European students. So it's
kinda nice that there' a bit of an even mix.
oh funny story! Us returning students (RS's) were having a meeting and
we saw a newbie (whose name we found out later was Drew) walk by us.
Now Drew's a really really big guy and Charlie made the comment "hey i
bet if we all gang up on him, we can take him down". Ya, it was funny, i
guess you had to have been there. I also met my new roomie that day.
Her name is Jennifer and she's from Idaho (US). You know where they
filmed Napolean Dynamite? Well that's where she's from. Apparently she knows
the brother of the guy who wrote the movie. So that's pretty cool. I'm
having fun with her so far. I almost got attacked by her alarm clock
falling from her bed, so we already are having a great time together :)

As for what I have to do as an RS, its' a little different from last
semester. I'm now in charge of making sure all the morning duties are
being done around the Homestead. I was also picked by Ron to be on student
council with Vanessa and Richard. I think that'll be interesting
because I haven't been on a student rep since Gr.9 and that doesn't even
count because no one knew I was even in that position. Ya, Naicam School
will do that to you. And our assignments are a little bit different. We
meet with Ron every week and discuss different things that we are
assigned to read. WE have to have parts of Systematic Theology read by
Monday. It's the best thing ever!!!.....just kidding.....but seriously ;) And
within 4 weeks we have to create a bible study based on passages that
Ron has chosen for us and from what we read from Systematic Theology. so
it's just a bit different than what i'm used to, but that's good
because I don't want to get into a comfortable routine here.
As for my family group here's who's in it and where they are from...

David & Margaret- my mum and dad- from Australia
Lejf-my uncle-Denmark
Charlie-USA
Josh-USA
Vanessa-Canada
Rob-Canada
Judith-Germany
Katie-Canada
me-Canada

so that's pretty cool. On our family night we played some "getting to
know you" type games, we watched a DVD that Charlie made from last
semester (surprisingly i didn't cry at all!!, Stacey aren't you proud of
me?!?!) and we just hung out. I think my family this time around won't be
as "loud" as it was last semester, however I think I need a little bit
of quietness now and then. Not that my family now won't have it's
moments! I mean with people like me and Charlie and Rob....our family won't
be quiet @ all :)

Yesterday Vicki organized a little scavenger hunt in Hamilton to get
the newbies "orientated" with the near by city. it was pretty fun. Today
a bunch of us headed into Taupo to see Huka Falls and to take a dip in
the hot springs. I went in the hotsprings when I went skydiving in Feb,
so I've been there b4. I think the newbies had fun :) i was more or
less the photographer while a bunch of people swam.

Then, about an hour or so ago, i walked in the computer room to finish
up some e-mails to my loyal fans out in cyberspace when Josh (my bro)
asks me "hey, are you going to be in on the Pinball Championship?". Now,
only @ Capernwray would you get a question like that. He was talking
about playin pinball on the computer and comparing "high scores" with him
and (my other bro) Rob. it was actually quite funny because all 3 of us
were really into it, we had our sleeves rolled up and everything, it
was great. Right now they're jamming away in the lecture hall. I think
Rob's on drums and Josh is playing guitar? I can't tell because I can't
see them from here.

Alright well I guess that's all 4 now. love and miss you all heaps! God
bless!

The Night Before Spring 2005 Began

Hello one and all! Well at the moment I'm on campus @ Capernwray
awaiting the arrival of the new students which should be happening tomorrow.
I'll give you the lown down on what's been going in my mind the past 24
hours since I got here:

School life
It's SO weird being "back home" at Capernwray because i feel as if I
should expect Stacey and Ruth to jump out of a corner and yell "Hey
Ernie!" or to hear Graham say "Hey Lene!" to me from computer room. I feel
as if I"m home, but I've been detached from it. it's nice to be back
but it's weird not having the familiary people again. The place just
feels so empty. I mean it'll fill up a little bit by tomorrow, but it'll be
SO different from going from a 65 student school to a 37 student
school.

Roomies
Well I"m in S8, which is 3 doors down from my old room S5. I thought
that the staff would be putting all the returning students with all new
students (as in only one returning student/room) however that wasn't
the case with me. i mean i"m not disappointed that I'm staying with
another returning student, to me it would have made more sense to do it the
other way around. My roomies this term are Bethany (from Japan....well
she's Canadian but her parents are missionaries in Japan) and a girl
named Jennifer (whom I haven't met yet but I"m sure she'll be coming
tomorrow). so ya there's just the 3 of us in a room. It'll be nice having
all the extra space, however it'll be differnet because I'm used to
sharing a room with 3 other girls.

Family Groups:
since there's less students there's not as many family groups as there
was last semester. Instead of 7-8 families we had last time there's
only going to be 5 families with about 6-7 students per family. My family
group this time around is the Collishaw/Pederson family. I"m excited
about this because not only do I get to know these staff members better,
there's 2 returning students in my family. Who you may ask? Vanessa and
Charlie!! OH ya! How much fun will I have (only students from Autumn
2005, will really know what i"m talking about ;) ) So ya I"m pretty
pumped.

However since I"m a returning students, we get to do our family bible
studies first off. Charlie can't really do his 1st because he's doing
Morning tea devotions. So that only leaves me and Vanessa. I have this
slight fear that I'll be the one to give my bible study first. I kinda
want to give one on a passage that will get the new students pumped for
the semester. Any ideas? I'd love to hear them :)

Expectations of Returning Students
Now that i"m a returning student there's a little bit different
expectations. I know the rules in the "life file" (our student rule book) and
I"m now supposed to be the one that tells the newbies "hey, you
actually can't do that here". Ya, i get to lay down the law. Oh and speaking
of the life file, Ron changed it abit:
-new cover...there's a picture of Vicki, Kalli, Amy A. and Tasha on the
front
-new rule....we can watch movies on Friday nights & Saturday nights
-new rule....we dont' have to be in our own room at curfew. Now we can
stay in our friends rooms (girls in girls, and guys in guys) and chat
if we need to, however we need to be curtious of other people in the
rooms. Somehow I have the feeling that that rule will get abused a bit, so
we'll see if that rule sticks or not.

As for assignments this time around, all Ron really mentioned about
that is we (as returning students) will have 3-4 15 page papers due this
term. Not too bad seeing as i wrote an 8 page study paper on Marriage.
He mentioned that some of the topics of our study papers will be
different doctrines. I"m really looking forward to researching the Doctrine of
God. Basically a doctrine is a paper that explains something; what is
it? how did it get here? what am I supposed to do with it now?

But ya. that's all i can really say for now. Please pray for me as i
start up this next semester. I'm kinda nervous about being "looked up to"
as a returning student and because as much as I loved last semester, i
don't want to get too hung up on it. So ya, that would be great if you
could pray 4 me. Thanx! I guess that's all 4 now. Thanx for the
comments some of you have been giving me about the blog, that's great :). Love
and miss you all lots. God bless!

Free Movie Poster!

hello! I went into town again today...i guess that's maybe a good thing because somehow i broke into a sweat on my way back to Irene's place. Sweating is a good thing, right? does that mean I'm losing weight? If so, Yippy!!

but ya i didn't do much in town. I was able to catch up a bit with Bryony, one of the Adventure Bible School staff members so that was good. I was also able to get a couple of cards that I needed to send to people. so that was good.

Oh! the coolest thing happened today! so occasionally I'll buy a teen magazine because I like cutting things out and making a collage of them on my notebooks for school. So today i picked up a Girlfriend magazine (NZ's answer to American magazines like Teen and Seventeen) and I was skimming it seeing if there was anything worthy of being on my notebook when i noticed that there was a free poster. Curious i started to open it, and i was half expecting to find a picture of a "Hollywood hunk" or something like that. Then I saw a polar bear in the corner and I knew instantly what it was. It was a movie poster for a movie that's coming up in December....THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE!! yay for free movie poster of the movie based on not only a great book series, but the base of last semester's Breakthrough!! Hooray! So ya i"m pretty stoked about that. Free movie poster (of course i got the magazine...mainly because of the poster)! I can't wait to see that movie. Mainly because we did our Breakthrough on it and because I was Mrs. Beaver.

But ya I guess that's about it. I get to head out to campus in a the next couple hours! Yes! I'm SO pumped for next semester. Why? i mean alot of you are probably wondering "She's excited for school? Is she crazy? What a nerd!" But then again you have to remember that i"M going to Bible school and the stuff that i"m learning is actually stuff that I'm really interested in. Plus the people here are great! I mean you met So many different cultures and people, you get to share a room with 2 other people (well that's how things are giong to be this semester), I'm in New Zealand, and the atmosphere of Bible School is just great. So ya, like I said b4, I'm stoked.

Ok I guess that's all 4 now. Remember my e-mail address is earleneulrich@capernwray.org.nz Feel free to e-mail, I'll probably e-mail you back. Plus if you're luck I'll send you a couple picutres in my e-mails...just remind me about it ;) Love you all & God bless!

P.S. CONGRATULATIONS goes out to Micheal (my cousin) and Crystal Ulrich who just got married today!! yay! I wish you both the best and may God bless you as you share your new life together! Miss you both!!

Autumn 2005 (January 25-June 30 )

Hey! This is where I'll be posting links for my pictures of my first semester @ Capernwray. I know there's nothing here @ the moment but that's because whenever I tried to post pictures lately it hasn't worked. I'll probably put the links in chronological order so all you have to do it click on the date/event that you want to see and take a look @ the pictures. Sorry there couldn't be anything up at the moment...i guess you'll just have to wait ;)

Bittersweet

Today was one of those bittersweet type days.

It was sweet because:
-I walked into town today (only a 30 minute walk from Irene's place)
-I was able to find the 4th Thursday Next book "Something Rotten" for only $9.99!! How awesome is that! I kinda feel bad because Jake got them for about $25.00 at the same store.
-went to the Deli coffeshop and got a Chai latte....they actually write the word Chai in chocolate syrup right on the foam

It was bitter because:
-i walked past the red phone booth and it reminded me of when 7 of us squished in there
-i walked past the big teddy bear in the bookstore and it reminded me of Danny
-i walked past the pet store and it reminded me of Jake

I could probably go on about how everything in town reminded me of someone from last sememster. *sigh* I guess it'll just be hard to "forget" people from last semester because they are SUCH good friends of mine. I'm such this semester is going to be harder to say goodbye @ the end because there's only 36 students and within 6 months i"m sure we'll all become really tight. Well I guess that's all for now. Bye!

I John Reu-John Reuben

As you've noticed, there's been a bunch of changes for the blog. I hope you can find what you need to find. It's just that now I have time to update the blog myself so I decided to change what I could. ya, that's about it on that subject.

I'm heading into Cambrige today which is exciting because I feel like i"m heading back home because Cambridge has become my new home.

Oh and if you're curious I've finished "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde. I also finished "Sidetracked in the Wilderness" by Micheal Wells which basically states how you can have abiding life in Christ. At the moment I'm reading "The Odyssey" by Homer. No, not Homer Simpson....I mean the Homer from Classic Literature. I'm kinda going through a big reading phase right now, which isn't that bad actually. On my own "reading list" I've got "The Chronicles of Narnia", "The Lord of the Rings", and "The Odyssey". I'll let you know how the books go once I get them all read. But I probably won't get them all done before the time i come back home because not only go I have school (which means studying the bible), I gotta meet new people and hang out with them, do duties, don't forget weekly ministries, and I"ll probably get involved in soccer this semester seeing as otherwise I won't exercise @ all. So that's my schedule. So I highly doubt I"ll get all the books read. Oh well.

Soundman-John Reuben

Hello again! Your'e probably wondering what i've been doing in Hamilton to kill time. Well last night I went to the movies, which i probably shouldn't have because movies here are expenseful ($14.50 NZ) but i went anyway. I ended up seeing "Fantastic Four". I really liked it. It had a good story line, plus a little "love story" and I'm always a sucker for those kind of things. ;) I kinda wanna see it again, I liked it that much. However like I said before it cost a pretty penny so I probably won't see it again until it comes to video.

When I got back to my hostel I was surprisingly the one there last night which was really nice. I ended up watching 2 other movies that were on the TV. I saw "50 First Dates" and "As Good As It Gets". They were alright movies to wind down the day.

This keyboard is really weird. I mean it's got Chinese and Japanese characters on it as well as the English letters. Weird as!

I also got a CD today (ya another one!) but this is John Reuben, so he was worth it. Besides, I haven't gotten a Christian CD in a long time. i"m excited! Oh and i got an e-mail from Ron, and he said that all returning students need to go back to school on Saturday night. I guess we're supposed to go early to set up stuff and what not.

Well i guess that's all for now. Hope to heard for ya'll soon. God bless!

L'Italiana in Algeri-Rossini

hello Hello!! It's Sunday July 10 on a fine non rainy day in Hamilton New Zealand. Yay for no rain...however I might have said that too soon because knowing this country it can rain at any second.

It's one week until I can go to school and next semester starts up! Man, I"m SO excited! Seriously! I haven't been this excited for school since last semester started. I just love it though :) Apparently there's only 36 students this semester. Last one there was about 60 of us and 40 of us were Canadians. However this time 'round there's about 10 Canadians, 10 Americans, and 10 from everywhere else in the world. 30 people! That's it! That's like half of last semester, which means there might only be two people per room rather than 4 people. I guess that's cool too. Please pray for the new students as they are travelling down to New Zealand. And also for the returning students that we will be good examples to these new students. Thanx guys!!

Lately I've just been realising that the Christian life is not the matter of keeping man out of Hell...it's getting God back into man, where He belongs. See, God created us perfect, in His likeness, without sin. However in the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating of "the tree of knowledge of good and evil". And so from then on man has been sinning. God sent Christ as the ultimate atonement for our sins. All that we need to do is believe that Christ died for us and has beaten death by rising from the grave. That's it. There is NO need for "working to try and please God". Once you're a Christian, that's it. However there is one thing that we need to do: let Christ live His life through us. Please if you have any questions about anything at all that I just said...let me know. I guess this is what's just been going through my head over the past couple of months and i know it in my head, it's just once i put it into words it might confuse people. But ya, let me know if you have any questions :)

Oh I'm also getting my hair cut today...I"m thinking kinda like how Kelly Clarkson has her hair in her "Since You've Been Gone" video. So, we'll see how that looks on me ;)

20 Questions!

Still in Auckland

hello again. well you are probably all wondering what i've been up 2 in Auckland. Well it's just me here because everyone else either left for Australia or for home. So that was sad :( But i'm ok now because I know we'll keep in touch with e-mail and msn :)

As for me? Well I've been killing time here are the internet cafe. It's relatively cheap which is nice. Plus there's msn on most computers which is always a bonus:)

I've also been reading a novel by Jasper Fforde called "The Eyre Affair". it's #1 of a four part series. It's really good. I've read the 3rd on last 2 week break. (Thanks for letting me borrow it Jakeface!!) So ya that's been eating my time too.

I also saw another movie since I needed to kill a couple of hours. I watched "Monster In Law" which is pretty dec. It's a typical romantic comedy, and I love those types of movies. Basically Jane Fonda plays a mom who wants to break up her son's engagement to Jennifer Lopez's character. It's alright.

Right now it's getting crazy in Auckland because of the major rugby games that are going on. You can't go anywhere without seeing either and All Black symbol or a Lions Symbol. Basically the All Blacks are NZ's major rugby team. And the Lions are the United Kingdom's major rugby team. There's fans all over the place. It kinda gives me an idea of what the Red Mile looked like when Calgary was in the Stanley Cup. But ya I heard the Lions are a really good team, however the All Blacks have beaten them every single time they have played each other. But then again I heard this from a Kiwi so that may be a bit biased ;) Then again what do I know about rugby?! I just want the All Blacks to win because NZ is like home to me.

Testing out a picture...

Ah!! I can post pictures! Yes!! Ok my goal in Hamilton is to post the pictures that i have with me on my cards. Yes!! This is going to work! Yo uhave no idea how happy this makes me feel. Hooray!!

And if you haven't figured it out yet, this is a flag of my new "home". I've noticed lately that anything NZ (like a map or a flag) feels comfortable to me. Nikki had some Canadian money with her and just looking at it, it felt somewhat familiar yet somewhat foreign to me. I hope that makes sense. Okay bye 4 now :)

New Picture Feature

Yay for making posting pictures easier!! This makes things a whole lot easier for me when i can actually post pictures. Maybe i"ll be able to on my 2 week break. I"m just wondering....if i did post pics in chronological order, who of you would actually look at them? As in to look in my archives and look at them? Please e-mail me and tell me other wise what's the point of me posting pics in the first place if no one will look at them. YOu know what i mean? But ya I guess that's all for now. bye

Don't Stop Till You Get Enough-Micheal Jackson

what at crazy day! well not really all i did was go to coffee shops and read and wonder around Queens Street and bookstores. I"m heading into the movies (Monster In LaW, to be exact) to kill a couple of hours. Then I might be back @ the internet cafe to organize a few things on my blog & e-mail. I just get on and i"m already talking to like 5 people on MSN. Craziness!! OH well i guess that's the great thing about friends and technology....there's always someone online to talk to :) Well i guess i better go now. Love you all veyr much & God bless!

Auckland

hey everyone!! I really apologize to all those who have e-mailed me over the past couple of weeks and I haven't e-mailed back yet. The past weeks have been filled with last minute packing and saying goodbye to people. I know I already mentioned that in my last post, but you know. I'll try by best to catch up on all the e-mails that I've been behind on during the next week while I'm in Hamilton.

so at the moment I'm in Auckland and I've been hanging out with some friends from school and I also watch them leave our hostel and see them on the way to the airport. It's really sad. The last day of school before everyone parted ways was really sad because everyone was hugging everyone and saying goodbye and everyone was crying (well I know I was @ least) it was really sad. I'm hoping when I get back I'll do some major roadtripping...especially to Alberta & Manitoba ;)

Well as for the new things that have happened to me lately....since a bunch of us were bored in downtown Auckland we ended up seeing 3 movies in theatres. I ended up seeing Batman Begins, Madagascar, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They were pretty decent movies (or as we say @ Capernwray "they were pretty dec"). Madagascar I saw by myself and I wish that Stacey or Ruthie was there because it had a bunch of inside jokes in there that only those 2 would understand. But ya that was fun.

before Shandell, Whitney and Jana left, Shandell helped me dye my hair black. I know I said I was going to wait until I got home but I talked to Ron (our principal) and he said I could dye it. so i did. It's kinda weird actually seeing black hair on me as opposed to the espresso brown that i"m used to. Now i just gotta get my layers trimmed up and it should look great

I think that once i say bye to everyone that's here with me right now I'll head down to Hamilton. Once I'm there I can catch up on e-mails, read a book @ Starbucks and sleep in. Yes! I'm excited

Well if some of you dont' know yet, I'm staying here until December 15. so if you want to contact me e-mail me @ earleneulrich@capernwray.org.nz and if you go to the link that i have on the sidebar under my Schools heading and click Capernwray, it'll give you and idea of where I live in New Zealand. Plus you can hear my principal (Ron) and director (Peter Thomas...otherwise known at PT) on there too

Well i guess that's all for now. I apologize again to those who I haven't e-mailed lately, you know who you are ;) But i gotta go now. Love you all tons & God bless :)
